Nominations - NEW CATEGORY for December - "Best Spiritual Post and Site"

It has been requested by a new reader that we include a category for spiritual blogging. I think this is a wonderful idea!

I would like to define "Spiritual" as it will pertain to The Order:

1. Spiritual posts are those which develop themes on belief systems when those systems arise from the tenet that something, someone, 'out there', is greater than ourselves. These may be religious belief systems of ANY religion or any organization that espouses a connection to a Higher Power, no matter what that Higher Power is called.

2. Again, the skill of the writing, and not the ideas expressed, are the basis for nomination and voting. As with Political posting, one can admire the writer's skillful handling of the subject matter without necessarily espousing the writer's ideals.

3. Spiritual Sites are those which have 30% or more of their posts designated as development on a spiritual theme.

4. NO VALUE JUDGMENTS ARE TO BE MADE ABOUT ANY AUTHOR'S BELIEFS, PLEASE. This is a free country. We all have First Amendment rights. The purpose is to expose one another to excellent blogging and photjournalism. Please, let's avoid a commentathon with divergent discussions. If someone does not like a post or site, just do not vote for it! Thank you.

That being said, thank you, Annie, for your suggestion, and I hope this is a rousing success!

Best Spiritual Post:
No nominees for December

Best Spiritual Site:
Julie D. - Happy Catholic
Little Bar of Soap - I Wish I Were A Little Bar of Soap

OK, I will get the ball rolling by nominating Julie at Happy Catholic. I'm not sure about the rest of the year, but during Advent, her blog is WAY over 30% spiritual.

And she's got a cooking blog, too!

this may be spliting a hair however the internet is not a country.

Uninterlaced - True. The internet is not a country. But the blogsphere seems to have more of a 'world of its own' flavor, don't you thing, though?

Basically, I'm a little confused about your comment and perhaps you can clear it up for me with a reference to a line or comment to which it relates? Thank you.

At 12/24/2005 9:11 AM, Blogger Motherdear said...

Okay, uninterlaced, now I see what you're talking about. When I said please not to pass judgment on the beliefs in the writing because we all have First Amendment rights in this country, you thought I meant the internet is the county.

No. The internet is NOT a country, you are correct. But the United States, in which this site originates, IS a country which affords freedom of speech.

So if you are a visitor from a country outside of the US - welcome, we are so happy to have you here! And even if your country does not afford the freedom of speech, rest assured, we do here on this blogsite.

And if you are from the US, and know firsthand of all of this, you had the freedom to express your comment. And thank you for feeling free to post it!

Willy jo - I sought out Pat's blog but really don't think is belongs in the Spiritual category...if you can think of another category to nominate it for, would you please do so?? Thank you!

Nick - the site has been taken down. I'm sorry. Do you have knowledge of anything archived from it?

Miss C., lbseahag, and gary - done! Thank you!

Good Evening Motherdear

Many thanks for your email this afternoon, advising me that my The Garlic: All The Cloves Fit To Peel has been nominated for Best Comedic Blogstie. It nice to know someone is reading The Garlic.

As I looked over other postings, and also saw no other contact option, kindly, at your convenience email me (you can do it from my profile on The Garlic) and advise if this is a montly honor or yearly honor, so I can create the correct copy to see about getting a vote or two

Again, Many Thanks
Peace

Happy Catholic- hands down!

It's a great site, very well written, interesting, eclectic and at times, very, very thought provoking without the preachiness.

Slam dunk, no question.

Tom, thank you for stopping by! Unfortunately, we have a rule about not nominating yourself, and I unfortunately went to bed and read a book last night rather than hovering over my computer to catch last-minute nominees...so I'll tell ya what...

I went to your suggested post and think it would make a lovely "historical" nomination for January (I will nominate it myself). Historical only means it wasn't written in the month in which it was nominated, not that it's about history...so it fits the bill perfectly.

Is that okay with you?

Again, thank you for dropping by!! We hope you come back often!

Count this as vote for Happy Catholic. It's one of my favorites, but don't tell Julie I said that, because I don't want it to go to her head.

On second thought, don't worry about it - I'll be sure to keep her in check. ;)

hi again - what i really meant is that the whole concept referring to the american first amendment, which addresses free speech, is a meaningless, empty thing to say.

if you are going to appeal to a meaningles, empty statute in terms of the internet you might as well refer to the universal declaration of human rights. at least its international.

why do i say its meaningless. if i were say from china for example and i posted some stuff on this site about mao being a sissy or whatever takes to piss off chinese authorities enough, it would only be a matter of time before i was hunted down.

and as they were dragging me from my apartment after the raid i think the police would laugh if i mentioned anything to do with my so-called 'rights.'

Okay. Thank you for explaining the comment.

The thoughts of this site being read in China never once entered my mind, for some reason. I guess that it a total possibility, although a statistically higher improbability. But I do have a friend in Malaysia, so I can see your point and thank you for explaining it to me.

So maybe I'll make up my own country and say "In MD-Land, where originates The Order, we have a free speech policy." Does that better fit the bill??? Or is the improbably commenter from China still in trouble??
