He tagged me. Since I didn't get him a birthday present yet, I'll do this for him. Cuz we likes him, don't we, my Preciousss....yesssss, we likes our Kal.

1. Which curse word do you use the most?
The F-bomob. Learned it in nursing school, along with the fact that coffee is a food group.

2. Do you own an iPod?
Oh, get serious. What's an iPod???

3. What time is your alarm clock set for?
Depends on what L&M needs for backup. And how many reports have to be in by 8 AM. Sometimes I go to bed at 3 AM and get up at 4 AM to finish them. Usually, it's about 5:30 AM.

4. How many suitcases do you own?
Several thousand. Still have the one I brought to the parking lot of the 7/11 to deliver Kal!

5. Do you wear flip flops even when it's cold?
Haven't owned a pair of flip-flops (we called them Zori Sandals in my day) since I was about 10 years old. The answer is NO!

6. Would you rather take the picture or be in the picture?
Take it, take it. Most of our family pictures have everyone but me in them. It's a public service...

7. What was the last movie you watched?
Let's see...I think it was Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban. BG takes me to a movie once a year. As soon as our shedules mesh, we're going to go and see Flight 93. It's my birthday present from BG.

8. Do you or any of your friends have children?
I have two wonderful children. Grown and gone, now. But still my kids. My Precious has two wonderful children as well. Penny and Mossy have two children. And that's the end of it for my list of friends.

9. Has anyone ever called you lazy?
Never. If anything, I worked myself to death.

10. Do you ever take medication to help you sleep?
Yep. At times, I need it.

11. Which CD is currently in your CD player?
The score from Mamma Mia. Great stuff.

12. Do you prefer regular or chocolate milk?
Gimme chocolate. Gotta have chocolate.

13. Has anyone told you a secret this week?
Nope. They know better.

14. When was the last time someone hit on you?
1992

15. Can you whistle?
Yup. In harmony, even! Can't do that neat, loud, finger-in-the-mouth whistle, though.

16. Who was the last person you talked to on the phone?
The Building Inspector to make sure the 3/8" sheathing the roofers put on my porch roof was legal. Seems flimsy to me...

17. Do you think people talk about you behind your back?
I'm not all that important. Besides, what other people think of me is none of my business.

18. Did you watch cartoons as a child?
Of course! All Saturday morning. Then we had to stop at noon and clean the house before my mother got home from work, or we'd be watching cartoons the next Saturday through black eyes!

Depends on how young and gorgeous they are.

Nope

23. What is your favorite salad dressing?
Honey Dijon

24. Who was the last person to make you mad?
Hmmmmm....okay. Had to be the roofer who decapitated my acorn finial on the front porch and then tried to put it back on (badly!) with a few nails so I wouldn't know. I'm not mad that they knocked the finial off, accidents happen. I was just mad that they tried to hide it from me and weren't respectful enough of me and the $30K this roof is costing to come to me and tell me, and tried to hide the damage. The house is old. I want to keep it original. They knew this. But I can be worked with and it's not like it would have been hard to ring the bell and tell me about it! They know where I live, you know????

25. Do you do your own dishes?
Don't make me laugh. Do you think the cats are going to do them? Cuz sure as hell, L&M don't know how to do dishes!!!

26. Ever cry in public?
I cry at daffodils blooming. And don't care who sees me.

27. Are you on a desktop computer or a laptop?
Working on a desktop. Don't own a laptop, although one would be an excellent idea for my bed-bound days...hint, hint...

28. Are you currently wanting any piercings or tattoos?
Actually, I'm thinking of getting one at a specific point in time and hoping never to have to.

29. Would you ever date someone covered in tattoos?
Covered? Depends on the person. You don't date the tattoo, you date the person.

30. What did you do before this?
Got L&M packed up for his day, dreading how his return would impact my lfe as I tried to explain things I don't know to him from what he's learning in his computer training.

31. When is the last time you slept on the floor?
Pajama party, as a kid. I'm not counting camping.

32. How many hours of sleep do you need to function?
Three, I've found.

33. Do you eat breakfast daily?
No. There are days when I don't eat lunch or dinner daily. In the same day, even. Food has little interest for me if I have to cook it.

34. Are your days full and fast-paced?
No. They're days filled with my family.

35. Do you pay attention to the calories on the package?
Nope. I eat what I eat, when I eat it. And rarely at that!

36. Do you use sarcasm?
Use sarcasm??? That would mean I derive a benefit, right? Like making you feel like an idiot, and making me feel superior??? Probably.

37. How old will you be on your next birthday?
247

38. Are you picky about spelling and grammar?
Yes. Kal thinks I'm a spelling Nazi. Particularly when it comes to the common confusion between 'its' and 'it's'. The first being the possessive case, and the second, the contraction for 'it is'. Get it right people. Grrrrr....

39. Have you ever been to Six Flags?
Yup. In Getysburgh, PA. LOVE roller coasters. Highly recommend the Loch Ness Monster and The Big Bad Wolf.

40. Do you get along better with the same sex or the opposite sex?
I try not to get along with anybody.

41. Do you like mustard?
Honey mustard. Regular yellow mustard reminds me of baby poop and dijon is good, but a bit bitter.

42. Do you sleep on your side, stomach, or back?
Side and back.

43. Do you watch the news?
Yes. I love being depressed, it does such wonders for my outlook on this miserable existence I call 'a life'. Ha!

44. One of your scars--how did you get it?
Just one of them???? Hmmmm....a star-shaped scar on my inner thigh, near my, uh, leg crease...which I got when I was 8 and learning to ride a two-wheeler and put the pedal through my, uh, groin. It would have helped me to learn to ride better if my mother hadn't convinced my dad that training wheels were supposed to be RAISED as a pair, instead of leaving one on and one off. Threw me off balance and I dumped the bike.

There ya go, Kal. How's that! Mommy blogged.

"Dramatic" posts and sites, as they apply to The Order, mean that serious subjects are addressed and the writing style reflects them in a serious manner..

Rules on the nomination for Dramatic / Serious Posts and sites:

1. Posts must be written between January 1st and January 31st.
2. Nominations can be made up to 11:59:59 PM (EDT) on January 31st.
3. Nominations will be placed in the comments, and added to the body of the post on a daily basis. If you would like to nominate in secrecy, then make and post the comment, and then delete it. It will show up in my email box and I will add it to the nomination post.
4. "Serious" and "Dramatic" refer to the subject matter.
5. Blogsites must have at least one January posting in order to qualify. Any site without a post in January should be nominated in the Historic category.
6. Each nominator can list up to three post and three blogsite nominations per category. You cannot nominate your own post or blogsite (but you can vote for yourself.)
7. Active links (or at least URLs) would be appreciated!!!

Remember - voting starts February 1st and ends February 5th at 11:59:59 EDT. I will not be able to count any votes received prior to February 1st, as the nomination period is still open.

As well, please note that I have opened up the nominations and voting to all visitors. I would ask that, if you are nominating or voting without an ID, that you sign your comment with an ID or pen name. This is especially important in the voting process. Since we have rules stating that you may vote three times per category, but only once per nominee, I will need to ask that we all remain the honorable persons that we are and sign our votes and nominations rather than posting them as 'anonymous' to avoid abuse of the system. I will also reserve the right during the voting process, if voters do not wish to sign anonymous votes with a pen name, to cap the number of 'anonymous' votes to three per nominee to avoid ballot-box stuffing. Sorry to do that, but if you truly want to vote and not leave your name in the public eye, you have the option of voting in the comment, signing it, and then deleting it. It goes directly to my email program and will not be visible to anyone but me. And I guarantee you it will be used for ballot counting purposes, only.

Here are the definitions:

Posts - any post written prior to January 1st. It is FINE to re-nominate your favorite post from any prior month if it has never won! As long as it was written prior to January 1st, it's fair game. However, please restrict re-nominations to posts which were not winners in their categories. (Honorable Mentions may be re-nominated.)

Sites - Any category of site which does not have an active post for the month of January. (Note: - If a site is nominated before January 15th and the writer adds a new post after that date, the nomination will be moved to the proper category for Best January Site. If the nomination occurs AFTER Janaury 15th, and the writer adds a post this month, the site will remain as a Historical nomination. Best Comedic Post is for any humourous post created from January 1st to January 31st. Nominations end January 31st at 11:590:59 PM EST. There is no rule on originality, however, if I receive three objections in the comments about a post nomination that is clearly "LIFTED" from email jokes or other sources without citing those sources, I will call for an ad hoc vote whether or not to keep the post in play.

Best Comedic Blogsite must contain at least one post during the month of January to qualify. (Otherwise, nominate in Best Historical Site, please.) Same Rules and Protocol apply as always - up to three nominations per post and blogsite in each category, and you cannot nominate yourself!!! Voting will begin February 1st through 11:59:59PM EST on February 5th. You have three votes per category but can only vote for the same post or site once. Nominations - January's "Best Photoblog" Posts and Blogsites

Photojournalism...the best way to say a thousand words, succinctly... Art meets journalism. A special medium, indeed, requiring skill and soul, a sense of art, a sense of humour... Each photosite and photopost is as unique as its creator. Here are the explanations for what constitutes each:

Posts - contain at least two photographs / drawings / graphics (or a combination of all three visual inserts), posted in the month of January.

Sites - contain at least one photo / drawing / graphic visual elements, with no maximum number, for at least 30% of its total number of postings. Sites - need to display the requisite 30% of photoposts in January at the time of nomination in order to qualify. Otherwise, see Historic Posts / Sites.

Remember - 3 nominations for posts, 3 more for sites, and one cannot nominate one's own work.

Voting starts February 1st and ends February 5th at 11:59:59 PM EST. Three votes allowed per category, but one cannot vote for the same post or site more than once. And one may vote for his or her own work. And please, NO VOTING before February 1st!!! Thank you for understanding!

Series can also be multi-authored. If two or more authors post on a continuing thread (e.g. a continuing story tag-up, a meme tag-up, or just collaborative authorship of a multifacted series telling the same story from different viewpoints) then all authors and their posts will be nominated in the series.

Therefore, please nominate all political posts and sites here!

Think of the subject matter and how well it was handled in the writing. You do not have to agree with the author's viewpoint... nominations should be based on the nominator's RESPECT for the writer's skillful writing on the subject matter!

Again, all posts nominated must be written in January. All sites nominated must have at least one political post for January.

These may be religious belief systems of ANY religion or any organization that espouses a connection to a Higher Power, no matter what that Higher Power is called.

2. Again, the skill of the writing, and not the ideas expressed, are the basis for nomination and voting. As with Political posting, one can admire the writer's skillful handling of the subject matter without necessarily espousing the writer's ideals.

3. Spiritual Sites are those which have 30% or more of their posts designated as development on a spiritual theme.

4. NO VALUE JUDGMENTS ARE TO BE MADE ABOUT ANY AUTHOR'S BELIEFS, PLEASE. This is a free country. We all have First Amendment rights. The purpose is to expose one another to excellent blogging and photjournalism. Please, let's avoid a commentathon with divergent discussions. If someone does not like a post or site, just do not vote for it! Thank you.

THE ENVELOPE, PLEASE...for December

It's been an exciting month in many ways. Although we did not receive nominations in some categories, the fact that there were so many holidays since our last vote figures heavily into that equation. We saw a number of new faces at The Order, added a new category at the suggestion of one of our readers, and we are proud of the brisk voting that ensued!!!! The-genius-previously-known-as-Digitalicat's winner's button is at the bottom of this post so that all our winners and Honorable Mentions can place them on their sites to display the high esteem in which their bloggery is held by their peers, if they so desire. We wish we could give everyone something more intrinsic, but as Kal says, sometimes the reward is in knowing that you are appreciated!!!

If I may add another new twist for this new year - I would like to personally recognize our loyal and devoted friends who have been with us since this project first began, one per month. With that in mind, I woul like to personally thank duff for being there, every month, nominating and voting to her full potential. Photojournalism...the best way to say a thousand words, succinctly... Art meets journalism. A special medium, indeed, requiring skill and soul, a sense of art, a sense of humour... Each photosite and photopost is as unique as its creator. Here are the explanations for what constitutes each:

Posts - contain at least two photographs / drawings / graphics (or a combination of all three visual inserts), posted in the month of December.

Sites - contain at least one photo / drawing / graphic visual elements, with no maximum number, for at least 30% of its total number of postings. Sites - need to display the requisite 30% of photoposts in December at the time of nomination in order to qualify. Otherwise, see Historic Posts / Sites.

Remember - 3 nominations for posts, 3 more for sites, and one cannot nominate one's own work.

Voting starts January 1st and ends January 5th at 11:59:59 PM EST. Three votes allowed per category, but one cannot vote for the same post or site more than once. And one may vote for his or her own work. And please, NO VOTING before January 1st!!! Thank you for understanding!

Best Comedic Post is for any humourous post created from December 1st to December 31st. Nominations end December 31st at 11:590:59 PM EST (if you're like me and do nothing but sit in front of the TV and wait for the ball to drop. I expect more of you will be too busy to be entering nominations, though. At least I HOPE you will!) There is no rule on originality, however, if I receive three objections in the comments about a post nomination that is clearly "LIFTED" from email jokes or othe sources without citing those sources, I will call for an ad hoc vote whether or not to keep the post in play.

Best Comedic Blogsite must contain at least one post during the month of December to qualify. (Otherwise, nominate in Best Historical Site, please.) Same Rules and Protocol apply as always - up to three nominations per post and blogsite in each category, and you cannot nominate yourself!!! This will be our first month of December for nomination. The holidays should provide a bit of blogfodder out there, and since holidays usually bring about a lot of strong emotion, I would expect the "Dramatics" might get some serious play this month! I hope so, at least. Let's see what we can find!

Rules on the nomination for Dramatic / Serious Posts and sites:

1. Posts must be written between December 1st and Decmber 31st.
2. Nominations can be made up to 11:59:59 PM (EDT) on December 31st.
3. Nominations will be placed in the comments, and added to the body of the post on a daily basis. If you would like to nominate in secrecy, then make and post the comment, and then delete it. It will show up in my email box and I will add it to the nomination post.
4. "Serious" and "Dramatic" refer to the subject matter.
5. Blogsites must have at least one December posting in order to qualify. Any site not posted to in December should be nominated in the Historic category.
6. Each nominator can list up to three post and three blogsite nominations per category. You cannot nominate your own post or blogsite (but you can vote for yourself.)
7. Active links (or at least URLs) would be appreciated!!!

Remember - voting starts January 1st and ends January 5th at 11:59:59 EDT. I will not be able to count any votes received prior to January 1st, as the nomination period is still open.

Request for community discussion: moderator eligibility

As moderators and administrators, should Motherdear and I be ineligible to receive nominations or awards?

The voting and nomination process is almost completely transparent (there are a few people who choose to nominate or vote privately), so there would likely be very little impression of impropriety should either of us be nominated or win an award. Besides, we're not really judges. We're counters. All of you in our voting community select both nominees and winners.

But on the other hand, should Motherdear or I win an award, that may create an impression of partiality, bias, or even outright cheating.

There are also possible middle paths, as well. For example, we could both remain eligible for nomination, but may only win if the number of public votes cast in our favor exceeds the number of public votes cast for the runner up plus the number of votes cast privately (regardless of for whom the private votes were cast.)

As an additional consideration, the award for Best Comment Trail is given to commenters, not the post writer (although the post writer will usually be a commenter as well.) Should posts written by Motherdear and me remain eligible, but with the specific exception that we are excluded from sharing in the award?

Nominations for the best Comment Trails can be for any number of comments larger than three on any post, on any subject.

Everyone who contributes to a comment trail is a nominee. If that comment trail wins, you will win shared honors with other commentators for the winning post.

It's time again, time to nominate your favorite posts and sites for October's awards. We hope to have new medals out (and return the Order of Australia medals to them with our gratitude for the loan!)

Rules on the nomination for Dramatic / Serious Posts and sites:

1. Posts must be written between Ocotber 1st and October 31st.
2. Nominations can be made up to 11:59:59 PM (EDT) on October 31st.
3. Nominations will be placed in the comments, and added to the body of the post on a daily basis. If you would like to nominate in secrecy, then make and post the comment, and then delete it. It will show up in my email box and I will add it to the nomination post.
4. "Serious" and "Dramatic" refer to the subject matter.
5. Blogsites must have at least one October posting in order to qualify. Any site not posted in October should be nominated in the Historic category.

Along with out illustrious nominees, winners, and honorable mentions for last month, I would like to announce that I have requested that (okay, BEGGING, pleading, and and promising my nextborn entered the bargain) our esteemed Digitalicat, Computerist Extraordinaire, to become my co-moderator on The Order Of Brilliant Bloggers.

Digi is familiar to many of you and shows up as a regular nominee (and winner). His Comment Trails are legendary. And so are his computer skills...

...and since mine are NOT (e.g. I can barely turn the thing on and pray the house doesn't burn down in the process), Digi has kindly consented to put me out of my misery (sans gun to the forhead or euthanasia) by serving as our technical resource, our Code Emperor, and just plain co-administrating The Order so that it functions as it was intended!!!

So be prepared for some changes to come!!! And please, if you have suggestions, MAKE THEM!! Digi and I want you to feel at home here.

NEW NOMINATION CATEGORY - "Best Political Post and Site"

One of the great things about August's nominations and voting was seeing how differently individuals handle political topics. We had a very political month with plenty of blog-fodder, between Iraq, Cindy Sheehan, and Katrina.

One of the "Best Serious Site" nominees pointed out that his treatment of the subject, although itself serious, was completely satirical. Many readers who are not politically based missed that point, due to the writer's sophisitcation and political expertise.

So, in order not to offend the writers who may be handling a political subject in either a serious or satirical fashion, and who may be misunderstood, OR to embarass nominators (such as myself) who might not know the difference, it is important to make sure that political blogging stands by itself.

Therefor, please nominate all political posts and sites in this category! Think of the subject matter and how well it was handled in the writing. You do not have to agree with the author's viewpoint...nominations should be based on the nominator's RESPECT for the writer's skillful writing on the subject matter!

Again, all posts nominated must be written in September.
All site nominated must have at least one post for September.

In order to make it easier for the moderator (yours, truly) to tabulate nominations and the resulting votes, I have broken this month's nomination down to six different posts. I thought it might be easier to actually find your category for nominating and voting that way. After we have completed August's awards, I will ask for feedback on how to make this easier for you!

I decided that, since Pete mentioned these and they're so darn pretty...I'm going to steal the Order of Australia awards for us. Shhhhh....don't tell anyone I'm such a plagiarist! I wanted to draw some up, but L&M is keeping me chained to his computer.
